For the last four years, I have been involved with the voting tabulation process for the Ovation Awards. Organized by L.A. Stage Alliance, the Ovation Awards are a Southern California award for excellence in theatre, established in 1989. They differ from other theatre awards by being 100 percent peer judged by active, local theatre professionals. Each year the Ovation Awards draw national attention to the quality and quantity of professional theatre in Los Angeles. Some of the major theaters involved include the Center Theatre Group, the Geffen Playhouse and the Pantages Theatre, plus many smaller companies.
For the Ovation Awards, the tabulation process involves verifying that all voters and nominees have adhered to the rules and qualifications. We’ve all fast-forwarded through the accountants’ presentations on televised awards shows, but the actual process is quite interesting, at least for an accountant! We are honored for our continued services to L.A. Stage Alliance each year. This recognition includes an on-stage appearance, which you can view here.
Besides being a lot of fun, this has been a great opportunity to develop relationships among different key players in the performing arts community.
